SEATTE - Voters will be asked in November to pay for an upgrade of Pike Place Market.
The Seattle landmark needs some repairs. Its trouble spots lurk out of sight.
Items needing attention include outdated wiring, rusty plumbing, broken tiles and more.
The Pike Place levy in November will ask voters to approve $73 million, costing the average homeowner maybe $43 a year.
Many people say they wouldn't mind paying a little bit more to fix up the market.
But it's questionable how they will feel come November, when "levy fatigue" has a chance to set in.
The Pike Place levy comes on top of levies for fire stations, housing, education and parks - adding up to a $400 yearly tax bite.
That's on top of gas prices and home mortgage fears, but taxpayers still want to keep up the market.
A SurveyUSA poll shows two-to-one in favor of a Pike Place Market fix-up, with more than three months to go before the election.
